Increasing Business Requires Vehicle Upgrade
Descend Underwater Training Centre recently won a major contract with Goulburn Murray Water. The contract involves all the diving work to be completed on Goulburn Murrays nine dams comprise the headworks assets and will be in force until December 2002. The locations include Lake Eildon, Goulburn Weir, Stuart Murray Canal, Cattanaoh Canal, Warranga Basin, Lake Nillacootie, Lake Mokoan and associated channels, Lake William Hovell and Lake Buffalo.
The increased work load and increasing commercial diving student numbers along with increasing requirements under the new Occupational Health and Safety act, has helped Descend to decide to invest in a new dive truck.
"Commercial dive sites often do not have basic toilet and shower facilities, and we have been concerned for some time about the manual handling of the bulkier umbilicals", explained Descend CEO Des Walters. "We decided to address all the issues with the purchase of an Izuzu 9 ton cab chassis, fitted with a 5m pan tech. " We have fitted the pan tech with two swing out umbilical lifters, each holding two umbilicals a combination toilet and shower, and a microwave oven. All our equipment is binned into 30 labeled bins and cylinders can be accessed from the outside of the van via a roll up door or from internally. We think this is the ultimate in diver convenience and certainly keeps us a step in front of the competition.
