Monday 22nd February
We start a new topic today – Nitrox. The syllabus covers - what Nitrox is, advantages of using Nitrox, the history of Nitrox usage and associated problems. We then learnt how to calculate Maximum Operating Depths, Equivalent Air Depths, and Maximum Exposure Limits. We then ventured out to the blending panel and were shown how to mix Nitrox and how to analyse gas mixtures.

It was back to Dartmouth Dam today for another day of boat diving. We started a new task - the flange survey. This involves measuring up a valve assembly to get all the dimensions we needed to a draw three-dimensional engineering drawing. Not an easy task in low visibility water. All divers require several dives to achieve this. We then lowered the workbench from the winch on the dive boat and went onto hydraulic tool tasks.

Exam time, yes yet another exam. This time our students are tested on the Nitrox they then marked and debriefed the exam – all students passed well. The syllabus covers - what Nitrox is, advantages of using Nitrox, the history of Nitrox usage and associated problems.

Students spend the day in today after a few days of diving. We first have a catch up on our paper work which includes logbooks, logsheets and student course files. We then have a general tidy up with everything having a good wash, fuel containers refilled and gear stacked where it belongs all ready for our final days of diving next week. Time for some more theory which was engineering drawing where we learnt the difference between elevation, plan view orthographic projection. Another great week.
