Commercial Course No 59 week 8

Commercial Course No 59 week 8
Mick has a dry run with the broco cutter

Monday 1st March

Last week of our level two course and we have plenty to still fit in. A Few more days diving, more theory to complete, final exam and a big end of course clean up. Today the real fun starts – The Broco ultrathermic cutter is a very special tool. It burns at 1200 deg.F at the tip and can cut almost anything including, steel, concrete, ceramics and marine growth. It’s the ultimate demolition tool. All students do a dry run on the surface then it’s time for cutting railway track underwater. Then it’s on to wet stick welding and all students achieve the task but much practice is needed to become a skilled welder.

Tuesday 2nd March
Dry run practices

We make an early start today to head to The Pit and the students get to put into practice the broco cutting that they have learnt about this week in the classroom. They have had a dry run in the car park but now it's their chance to try it out in the water. All students do well with the task.

Wednesday 3rd March
Dana has a dry run in the carpark

Today is much the same as yesterday back to The Pit to complete any outstanding tasks and to ensure all divers have completed all the specified dives at the correct depths.

Thursday 4th March
Peter gets to do a dry run

Today we start the enormous task of the cleanup. Being a commercial diver also involves up keep and maintenance on equipment. So the truck is completely unloaded, everything cleaned, repaired accounted for and repacked ready. This takes the best part of the day but we find some time to catch up on paperwork and logbooks. Students even got to leave early so they could study for their final level 2 exam tomorrow.

Friday 5th March
Students practice rescues

Bright and early students arrived after a big night of study (cramming) for the final exam. The final level 2 exam incorporates not only everything we have learnt on level 2, but also everything we covered on level one. It took everyone 3 – 4 hours to complete. We then marked and reviewed the exam so students have immediate feedback. Phew... glad thats over.
