Lake William Hovell
About 150km from Albury. Take the Hume Highway to Wangaratta, then the Whitfield Road to the Lake. A beautiful mountain setting with green lawns, picnic tables, kangaroos and lots of birds.
The best dive is actually in the King River, below the lake. Crystal clear and usually very cold coming off the bottom of the lake, the water flows into a large rock pool, approximately 5m deep. I have counted over 80 large trout in this one hole.
This is the best chance of encountering a platypus underwater and I would rate the dive in my top five fresh water dives.
